Chinese Pork Stew
An easy peasy, super tasty & aromatic meal which is actually very easy to make.
Everything you need
Main
- 500 g pork, diced.
- 1 large white onion, sliced into strands
- A glug of sesame oil
- 2 tablespoon Chinese rice wine
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1.5 teaspoon grated/pureed ginger
- 2 teaspoon five spice
- Black pepper, to taste
- 2.5 cm stick cinnamon
- 1 clove garlic
- 2 tablespoon grated ginger

- 1 dried tangerine peel
Marinade
- 2 tablespoon dark soy sauce
- 2 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
Method

Step 1
Add your pork to a bowl and pour the soy sauces over. Leave to marinate for an hour or two.

Heat your oven to 160°C.

On the hob in a large pot, heat up a good glug of sesame oil and, once hot, add the onions. When tender but not fully softened, add the pork.

As the pork fries, add the five spice, garlic, ginger, honey, and black pepper.

Once the pork is cooked, add the rice wine and a cup of water along with the clove, tangerine peel, and cinnamon. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Place the pot in the oven and let it caramelise and reduce down for 40 minutes.

Remove the cinnamon, tangerine peel, and clove, and serve your stew with rice and pak choi.
